Continued Patience Under His Yoke

Before moving to Romania, the Wurmbrands had escaped Communist Russia. In the 1940s, the Russians started to invade Romania. Many were innocently taken into prison camps, beaten and tortured. Sabina and her husband were both under the threat of imprisonment, or of even being killed, for a long time. Richard and her both openly and freely shared the gospel with many. One day Richard disappeared. Later Sabina found out he had been taken into custody by the Russians and was also arrested herself, leaving their son to take care of himself.  The quote, below is what she felt the Lord speak to her after her husband was arrested.

“Then one day, the word of God slipped quietly into my heart, saying, ‘My peace I give unto you.’ I understood anew the word Patience which is repeated so often in the New Testament. In the Greek this word —hypomone— means ‘To remain under’: to accept, to bear the pain as given from God. It will bear much fruit. God gives as well as takes away, and he put around me many new young people. It remained only not to forget: to have a pitiful heart after all that I had learned.” – Sabina Wurmbrand, ‘The Pastor’s Wife’

To me He was also saying, “Continue with me. Though your circumstances are changing, and like the Psalmist says, ‘There was fear on every side,'(Ps 31:13) take my yoke and continue in fellowship with me.” What is death to this life in every way possible compared to the riches in living eternally with the Father anyway?

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. Php_3:10

G5281
hupomon?
From G5278; cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy: – enduring, patience, patient continuance (waiting).

Constant, and continuing!

Joh_8:31 ….. If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

Joh_15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Act_14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Rom_11:22  Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Col_1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Col_4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Heb_13:1 Let brotherly love continue.

  1. Awesome story! There are two kinds of patience in the Greek :
    ????????? hupomone? hoop-om-on-ay’
    From G5278; cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy: – enduring, patience, patient continuance (waiting). I’ll endure hardship through it all.
    And: G3114 ??????????? makrothumeo? mak-roth-oo-meh’-o
    From the same as G3116; to be long spirited, that is, (objectively) forbearing or (subjectively) patient: – bear (suffer) long, be longsuffering, have (long) patience, be patient, patiently endure.
    I’ll settle in and wait forever! Selah….
